Celades: "We need to be self-critical and say that we played very badly"
Albert Celades was honest in his assessment of Valencia CF's performance on a bad afternoon at the Coliseum Pérez, in which the team lost 3-0 on LaLiga Matchday 23.
The game
“We didn't compete, from start to finish. When you come here to play against a team like Getafe, if you don't compete, then what happened today happens. This was our worst game since I've been in the dugout at Valencia CF and we obviously have to be self-critical. We weren't good in any facet of play. We had a very bad game and we didn't compete at any time."
"It's true that we have had bad games, but we have also had a lot of good games. I don't agree that the team 'deflate'. If we were such a bad team, then we wouldn't have finished top of our Champions League group, or be in the top part of the table. However, we obviously need to be self-critical and say that we played very badly."
Nothing working out
"We were very uncomfortable all the time, and that was even worse with the sending off. We were imprecise and we didn't dominate any facet of play. We went into halftime with the score level, despite us not feeling comfortable and them reaching our area with ease.
"At halftime we tried to correct things, but nothing that we were looking for worked out."
"We are hurt by the defeat and with how it happened. Today we have to draw conclusions and I don't like to forget what has happened. It's a slipup. LaLiga is very even and we all find it hard to win games, but we have to be self-critical, pick ourselves back up and wait for what is to come. I don't think that any player went out onto the pitch switched off, but little-by-little we were overrun."
